Dairy Diaries at Mitchells

At Mitchells, we are always looking to share products that are proving popular in our shop, and none are proving more popular than the 2013 Dairy Diary and Dairy Cookbook, Take a Box of Eggs.

Described as a ‘compendium of practical information’, the 2013 Dairy Diary is packed with useful hints and tips, making it the essential book for running any busy home.

Split into seven easy-to-use sections, it’s crammed full with advice on a vast array of subjects, from stain removal to homemade hand treatments, and childhood illnesses to looking after precious metals.

The 2013 diary also features a wide selection of mouth watering recipes to suit all occasions, from quick and simple soups and snacks, to classic staples such as beef casserole and fish pie, and delectable desserts like Hogmanay Tart and Irish Whiskey Cake.

The Dairy Diary is also available in the 2013 Dairy Diary Set, which contains a handy pocket diary and a notes pot with designer pencil and pen.

If you would like to organise some recipes in your Dairy Diary, you can also get a hold of Take a Box of Eggs at Mitchells.

The latest edition in the hugely popular Dairy Cookbook series, Take a Box of Eggs explores the delights of cooking with eggs and features over 100 easy-to-follow recipes using ‘nature’s own convenience food’.

The new hard-back book, which was launched during British Egg Week in October, is packed with dishes for every occasion, from quick and easy snacks and tasty budget dishes, to hearty family meals and heavenly bakes.

This edition also has a new format, meaning it lies flat and stays open on the kitchen worktop, and it even has QR codes throughout, which provide a handy shopping list of ingredients for each recipe.

The 2013 Dairy Diary, Dairy Diary Set and Take a Box of Eggs are all available from our shop in Market Place, and our customers who receive Mitchells milk on the doorstep will receive a leaflet offering them the opportunity to order direct from their Mitchells milkman.

The 2013 Dairy Diary is priced at £6.99, the Dairy Diary Set is priced at £8.99 and Take a Box of Eggs’ cookbook is priced at £7.49 - fantastic, good value presents for Christmas.

Mitchells' Hits The Headlines Again

As many of you are no doubt aware, Mitchells Dairy hit the headlines earlier this year after we won the Health Promoting Retailer of the Year award at The Scottish Grocer Awards.

Well, our name is up in lights once again, as The Scottish Grocer, Scotland's leading monthly magazine for the convenience retailing sector, has featured us in its jam-packed October edition!

Claire Amber Young travelled up to Inverurie to meet Keith and Judy and find out about Mitchells' history, ethos and passion for fresh, healthy produce.

In the article, which can be read here, Keith explains: "Providing shoppers with healthy, fresh products is something that has always been important to us."

He continues: "It's a big part of our ethos. People are definitely taking more of an interest in what they are eating now. They want products that are fresh, local and good quality."

As Amber Young points out in the article, one recent development has strengthened our increasing reputation as a provider of high-quality, local produce.

Our new fresh fish counter, which is run by local specialist Downies of Whitehills, offers shoppers an extensive range of fresh fish and seafood, as well as expert advice on preparation and cooking fish.

Discussing the fish counter, Judy says: "It is really appealing to our foodie audience and was a natural thing for us to do. We took an underproductive area of the store and we're now driving customers into it."

As the article points out, our involvement in community health and well-being doesn't stop at the shop door. We continue to be a supporter and sponsor of community events like the Gairoch fun run and 5k, 10k and half marathon events, as well as helping out with the local rugby club and local schools.

Since Mitchells was founded in 1928 by Elijah and Agnes Mitchell, we have been committed to supporting the local community and providing the very best local produce.

As the article indicates, that commitment remains as strong as ever.

Get Monty's Maggie's Menus at Mitchells

One of Mitchells Dairy's most loyal customers, The Ferguson Group, has helped produce a charity cookbook - and we are proudly selling it in our shop to help raise funds for Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal.

Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal, which is jointly run by the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and Maggie’s Centres, is aiming to raise £3 million to fund the building of a Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen.

And as a fundraising initiative, Ferguson Group, one of the world's leading suppliers of containers and accommodation to the offshore energy industry, decided to produce a cookbook which would give a broad spectrum of recipes from celebrities and celebrated chefs from around the world.

The cookbook, Monty's Maggie's Menus, features recipes from; Ed BainesMary BerryTom Kitchin, Colin MontgomerieCarol SmilliePhil Vickery and many others.

Scottish golfer, Montgomerie, who founded the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation along with his family in 2007 in memory of his late mother, says: "I hope that the variety of these tried and tested favourite recipes will provide you with a source of inspiration whether you are cooking for family, friends or a special occasion."

Whoever you are cooking for, many ingredients for the recipes in Monty's Maggie's Menus can be purchased from Mitchells' grocery.

For example, if you are planning to make the Chocolate Crème Brûlée, it would be delicious if made with Mitchells' double cream, while the Sticky Toffee Pudding would be just perfect if served with Mitchells' Luxury Dairy Ice Cream!

If you are making the Salmon Minute Steaks with Crushed Jersey Royals, which is pictured to the right, why not purchase salmon from the Downies Fish counter within Mitchells.

For the month of October, Downies have a special offer at their fresh fish counter - fresh salmon for only £8.90 per kg!

As always, we are happy to help source specific items for customers if they are not readily available at Mitchells or Downies.

Monty's Maggie's Menus would make a beautiful gift, but most importantly, all proceeds from sales of Monty's Maggie's Menus will go direct to Monty's Maggie's Appeal.
